MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT | FEDERATION OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS - KENYA
The contractual framework governing your rights, responsibilities, and engagement as a FOWEK member. Last updated: 23 September 2026.
Agreement Notice: By submitting a membership application and remitting subscription fees, you formally enter into this binding agreement with the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs – Kenya. Membership represents access, institutional connection, and capacity building—it does not constitute a guarantee of commercial outcomes.
FOWEK membership is open to individuals and institutions committed to expanding women’s economic participation in Kenya and the COMESA region:
FOWEK reserves the right to request evidentiary documentation verifying that an applicant fulfills category criteria, including Business Registration Certificates, CR12 forms, or certified group constitutions.
FOWEK maintains four primary membership tiers tailored to enterprise maturity and organizational structure:
| Membership Category | Eligibility / Target Profile | Annual Subscription |
|---|---|---|
| FOWEK Amani | Early-stage and emerging enterprises | KES 5,000 / year |
| FOWEK Shirika | CBOs, women's groups, and cooperative associations | KES 10,000 / year |
| FOWEK Zuri | Established and growth-stage enterprises | KES 20,000 / year |
| FOWEK Biashara | Corporates, institutions, and large enterprises | KES 100,000 / year |
One-Time Onboarding Fee: A mandatory, non-refundable registration fee of KES 1,000 applies to all new applications in addition to the annual subscription.
Fee Revisions: FOWEK reserves the right to review subscription tariffs. Any tariff revision takes effect strictly upon your subsequent annual renewal—never mid-tenure—and members will receive written notification at least thirty (30) days prior to renewal.
Admission to the federation follows a structured four-stage procedure:
Commencement Date: Membership commences on the date written confirmation is issued by the Secretariat—not the date payment is remitted. Submitting an application and remitting payment does not automatically confer membership. If an application is declined during vetting, FOWEK will provide written reasons and process a complete refund of subscription funds.
All subscription payments must be processed exclusively through authorized corporate accounts published on the Membership portal of this website.
Anti-Fraud Warning: FOWEK will never instruct an applicant or member to remit funds to an individual mobile number, personal M-Pesa account, personal bank account, or unverified till. If you receive suspicious payment instructions from anyone claiming to represent FOWEK, stop immediately and contact the Secretariat at +254 798 510 851 to verify before transferring funds.
Membership confers access to FOWEK’s institutional ecosystem, sector networking, monthly webinars, capacity-building workshops, and regional opportunity announcements according to your category tier.
Crucial Commercial Disclaimer: FOWEK delivers access, institutional networking, and operational capacity building. We do not guarantee commercial outcomes. Specifically, FOWEK does not warrant or guarantee that membership will result in:
Specialized enterprise initiatives—including BIAYWE incubation, COMESA trade fairs, and B2B matchmaking—are governed by separate, independent selection panels, strict donor criteria, and limited placement availability. Third-party partner offerings are subject to change by institutional providers outside FOWEK’s control.
Membership is valid for exactly twelve (12) calendar months from the date of written confirmation.
The Secretariat issues renewal reminders prior to expiry. Renewal requires payment of the prevailing annual category fee; the initial registration fee is not charged upon renewal.
14-Day Grace Period: If subscription dues are not settled within fourteen (14) calendar days of expiration, membership status lapses automatically. Lapsed members forfeit access to member-only directories, discounted event passes, voting rights, and regional announcements. A lapsed membership may be reactivated at any time upon payment of the category subscription.
Both the onboarding registration fee and annual subscriptions are strictly non-refundable once formal confirmation has been issued. This applies regardless of whether a member voluntary resigns mid-term or underutilizes available member benefits.
Exceptions: Full refunds are processed exclusively where an application is declined during Secretariat vetting, or where an accidental duplicate remittance is audited and verified.
FOWEK’s influence depends on mutual integrity and professionalism. Every member agrees to:
FOWEK reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership where a member breaches these terms, submits fraudulent credentials, defaults on payments, or engages in conduct that compromises the federation’s legal standing.
Due Process: Before formal termination, the Secretariat will issue a written Notice of Concern detailing the violation, affording the member fourteen (14) calendar days to respond. A member may appeal an adverse decision in writing to the Board of Trustees, whose governance determination is final. No fees are refunded upon termination for breach.
A member may resign from the federation at any time by providing written notice to membership@fowek.org.
We process member records in compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2019 and our published Privacy Policy. Your data is used exclusively for membership administration, statutory reporting, and opportunity distribution. We never sell, lease, or commercially trade member contact lists to third parties.
FOWEK may amend these terms periodically. Members will receive notice of material amendments at least thirty (30) calendar days before implementation, with changes taking effect upon your subsequent annual renewal cycle.
These terms are governed exclusively by the Laws of Kenya. Any formal dispute arising out of membership obligations will be addressed through amicable negotiation, followed by mediation in Nairobi under the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA) framework, before seeking recourse in Kenyan courts.
